December 20, 2025

We are building a speaker network to bring real LVAD stories into support groups.

We are building a speaker program and are looking for LVAD patients and caregivers who want to share their story to LVAD support groups.

LVADStrong is creating a volunteer speaker network to bring real patient and caregiver voices into hospital and community support groups. If you are interested, we would love to learn about your journey and what you would feel comfortable sharing.

What we are building

We are developing a simple, supportive way for LVAD patients and caregivers to speak with others who are living through the same thing. The goal is to make every LVAD support group feel more human, more honest, and more helpful, while promoting empathy in healthcare for patients, caregivers, and clinical teams.

This program is in development now. We are recruiting an initial group of volunteer speakers to help shape it.

Who we are looking for

You might be a fit if:

  • You are an LVAD patient or caregiver
  • You are willing to share parts of your experience in a respectful LVAD support group setting
  • You want to help other patients and families feel less alone
  • You prefer virtual only, local only, or occasional travel (all are okay)
  • You are comfortable starting small (even 5 to 10 minutes)
  • No public speaking experience needed.

What speakers might do

Depending on your comfort level, speakers may be invited to:

  • Join a hospital or community support group as a guest speaker
  • Participate in a small panel with other patients or caregivers
  • Share a short story followed by general Q and A
  • Speak virtually or in person
  • You decide what you say yes to. You can say no anytime.

What you might talk about

Speakers typically share lived experience, such as:

  • The early days before and after implant
  • Daily life with equipment and routines
  • The emotional side for patients and caregivers
  • What helped, what surprised you, and what you wish you knew
  • How you found strength, support, or meaning

Important boundaries

This is about lived experience, not medical guidance.

  • Speakers share personal experience only
  • Speakers do not provide medical advice
  • Hosts maintain clinical oversight for any clinical topics
  • LVADStrong is a connector, not a clinical provider

How we will support speakers

As we build the program, we are putting together:

  • A short orientation and expectations
  • Simple topic prompts to make speaking easier
  • A code of conduct focused on respect and privacy
  • Options for anonymity and virtual participation when possible
  • Clear agreements with host organizations so speakers feel protected

How to raise your hand

If you are interested, please fill out the quick form. This is not a commitment to speak. It is just a way to tell us:

  • a little about your story
  • what you would be open to
  • how we can contact you
