We are always working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.
What we have built in
- Keyboard access
- Every menu, tab, slider, modal, and form control can be reached and operated without a mouse. Focus is visible, and it is moved sensibly when dialogs open and close.
- Screen readers
- Headings follow a logical order. Images carry descriptive alternative text. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology rather than read aloud as noise. Interactive controls announce their state.
- Colour and contrast
- Body text meets or exceeds the AA contrast ratio. Colour is never the only way information is conveyed; badges and status messages carry text or icons as well.
- Text size
- Type is set in relative units and scales with your browser settings. Nothing is locked to a fixed pixel size.
- Reduced motion
- If your device asks for reduced motion, animations, scrolling galleries, and reveal effects are switched off automatically.
- Forms
- Every field has a visible label. Required fields are marked. Error messages explain what to fix in words, not just colour.
- Video and audio
- Where we publish video, we caption it.
- Cookie banner
- The consent banner can be reached and dismissed with a keyboard, and declining is exactly as easy as accepting. It does not trap focus or block the page indefinitely.
Where we may fall short
- Some older PDFs and documents may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We are working through them. If you need one in an accessible format, ask and we will provide it.
- Content embedded from third parties is outside our control and may not fully meet our standards. This includes our donation form, our newsletter sign up, the hospital locator map, and the cookie consent banner. We have chosen providers with reasonable accessibility records, but we cannot fix their code. If one of them blocks you, tell us and we will give you another way to do the same thing.
- Some older images uploaded before our current process may have thin alternative text. We are improving these as we find them.
If something does not work for you
Please tell us. A specific report is the fastest way to get something fixed, and you are not putting us out by sending one.

It helps if you can include the page address, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. Mentioning your browser and any assistive technology you use helps us reproduce it, though it is not required.
We aim to respond in a timely manner.
